Linda Redfield Shakoor

ESOL Teacher
Linda Redfield Shakoor PhD has worked for Orleans Niagara BOCES since 1994 as an adult ESL and Citizenship teacher. Her primary focus has always been on serving underserved agricultural workers of rural Western New York. World Life Institute Education Center, a private non-profit school in Waterport, NY that Linda helped build, has hosted Mexican and international workers since 1997 with a team of teachers and program supported by ONBOCES. With her co-teacher and artist Deborah Wilson, a New York State arts grant encouraged underserved Mexican women to achieve new pottery and literacy skills displaying their work in local studios. Linda became New York State teacher of the year and has helped 6 of her agricultural adult students achieve Student of the Year to tell their stories and achieve awards in Albany NY. It has been Linda’s passion to train ESL teachers state wide by sharing successful strategies for helping non served adult students learn and thrive.
